We were down at Convergence 2012 (#CONV2012) this past week in Houston, Texas. The conference focuses on both the CRM and ERP solutions that Microsoft delivers to market and it was the largest Convergence conference ever with over 10,000 participants!

This conference is great for connecting with people and I want to start off by thanking all of our customers that came to the Zero2Ten reception and to our valued partners who are always great to connect with and were very gracious hosts each night.

I was very interested in how Organizations would adopt Activity Feeds when Microsoft first launched this functionality back in November ("CRM Online 2011 R7 Released – "Activity Feeds" is Here").

Activity Feeds is very similar functionality to Social sites likeTwitter or posting a "Status Update" on Facebookor sharing an update on LinkedIn. When you go into "What's New", you are seeing all the latest posts that Users or CRM have posted on Accounts, Contacts, Opportunities etc. that you have decided to follow.

The mechanics of it is very straight forward and understandable but how can we make this functionality productive for the Organization?

Microsoft announced today that they will release a Mobile solution for Windows Phone 7.5, iPad, iPhone, Android, and Blackberry devices called Microsoft Dynamics CRM Mobile! See the link to the update on the Roadmap page on CRM or download the CRM Q2 2012 Preview Guide.

Here is a quick summary of the main features coming in Q2:

We all have Goals for 2012. Setting and then managing to your Goals help make your business more predictable. If you are a Bank, you might have a number of Goals for your Banking Team that are both revenue related as well as Activity related.

Specifically, you may want to look at:

Loan Volume Cash Management Fees Deposits Appointments Have a look at the sample Dashboard below that visually shows how I am performing against my 4 Goals. What is great about Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 is that the sales team can manage their Opportunities and Activities and Goals manage themselves.

We have put together a video on how to set up Goals for your team. Check it out here.

I was thinking today about the value of the CRM Cloud Solution from Microsoft as I was sipping on my awesome cup of coffee from Peet's Coffee and Tea. I realized that my cup of coffee was the same price as what the daily cost of Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online is for a user that can help them improve their selling, marketing and servicing of their customers.

Now that is a powerful comparison.

For those that know me, know that I am a coffee connoisseur but Microsoft releasing additional social, mobile, BI and tight integration with Office 365 for Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online it has become even a better value for organizations that want a great Cloud CRM solution.

So, here is my newest formula for improved sales productivity:

I have wanted to buy a tablet now for a while now and while I like what the iPad does from an entertainment value (we have one in our house), I wanted my device to be more for work and ideally to replace my laptop all together. Overall, I had 3 things that were important to me to have in a tablet:

A great app for:

Access Email (Outlook) Internet Browsing Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Access other Office Applications (PowerPoint, Word, Excel) Access Facebook and Twitter Use Skype Play some games

My tablet replaces my laptop

That it turns on quickly

Two weeks ago I walked into the new Microsoft Store here in Seattle and was immediately drawn to the new Samsung Series 7 Slate. Interestingly enough,...

The Team at Zero2Ten is getting ready for the Service Update Release of Microsoft Dynamics CRM that is coming out next quarter.

The workflow functionality in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 is both powerful in helping you manage your business processes more effectively and simple in that they can be created by a business analyst or administrator without having to write any code.

We get asked all the time about workflow capabilities in Microsoft Dynamics CRM and so I put together the 3 examples below to illustrate some common scenarios:

  1. How do I automatically assign a record to a given owner based on certain criteria?
  2. How do I automatically create a new record when an event happens in CRM?
  3. How do I automatically update a record when an event happens in CRM?

I am looking forward to the Q4 release of Activity Feeds inside of Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011. I see this being a great productivity and communication enhancement for teams and organizations using CRM that want to capture more of the day to day interactions that their employees are having with prospects and customers that are not today capturing in regular activities like phone calls and tasks.

Here is a quote from Brad Wilson who is the General Manager of Microsoft Dynamics CRM in an excerpt of an interview with CRM Buyer "It will be a Facebook-style interface that allows people to communicate across the CRM system," he explained. "A user can follow teams, records or accounts. This will be the first wave of social capabilities we plan to introduce over the next 14 months."
